Just what's needed when 38 hours away from a trip half way round the world. Our local town has allowed, but not permitted, a demonstration by a so-called right-wing organisation. The local paper reports " It is thought that 600 police Officers will be on duty around the Town on Saturday, with teams of detectives set to be on hand to gather evidence against troublemakers." And how about this "Thames Valley Police will be keeping members of the public up-to-date with developments on the day by posting messages on Twitter". "Entertainers and musicians will be in the town centre on Monday (what may be left of it) as the traders try and recoup some of their lost business. Chiefs from local authorities have contributed to pay for children's entertainers and bands between 11am and 3pm." One town council official is quoted " We want to show that this town is still a nice friendly place for shoppers".
Further rather worrying news for local residents (and they will know what I am alluding to), all taxis have been suspended for a 24-hour period from 0600 01-05-2010.
